Are you experiencing some back or pelvic pain during your pregnancy (or postnatally)? Is it limiting your activity? It can make you feel like you need to stop moving, but often just knowing some lifestyle modifications and building up some strength and/or flexibility can help to ease these symptoms or prevent them worsening!
In combination with seeing a physiotherapist 1:1 that specialises in pregnancy and postnatal conditions, regular strengthening and exercise through our classes can help to bring you some relief, or at the very least keep you moving in a way that will not flare up your symptoms. We can make modifications in our classes to keep you active whilst managing/aiming to reduce your pain.
When can I attend during pregnancy and postnatally?
Participants can attend anytime during their pregnancy and can commence classes from 6 weeks postnatal. Keep in mind exercise is ok to commence earlier than this as your body is ready – speak with your physio about what to get started with.
I had my baby years ago, so I don’t really feel like I’m postnatal anymore but the classes look like a good fit for me. Can I come?
Yes!
Do I need medical clearance before attending?
Can I bring my baby?
Yes! Babies are welcome. You can bring a carrier and/or mat and toys and any other supplies you may need for baby to use during class. At our Croydon West facility there is also room for you to bring your pram into class if helpful.
My baby can be fussy, is it ok to feed during class?
Yes! Babies often need to feed, be changed or be held at times during classes. Please feel comfortable to do what you need to with your baby and join back in when you are able. If bub is a bit unsettled and needing to be held, we can often modify exercises so you can hold baby and keep moving.
I’ve got a sore back/pelvis, will I be able to participate?
Yes! Babes on Board is specifically designed by physiotherapists to cater for people with various pregnancy and postpartum aches and pains including Pelvic Girdle Pain, Lower Back Pain, Carpal Tunnel, DeQuervain’s Tenosynovitis
I haven’t been very active previously, but I want to get started, can I attend?
Yes. Exercise is recommended for most people in pregnancy and postpartum, even if previously inactive. We can ease you into classes and progress you when you’re ready. Classes are designed to cater for people with different levels of exercise experience.
Can I join if I have pelvic floor symptoms (eg. leaking, heaviness/bulging)?
Probably yes! It is best to have a 1:1 appointment with a pelvic floor physiotherapist prior to attending. This way you can be given an individualised program to help with your specific symptoms. Babes on Board can work in conjunction with you and your physio to help you stay active whilst minimising pelvic floor symptoms.
Do classes work on pelvic floor exercises?
We incorporate pelvic floor exercises into each class and focus on breathing techniques and activation throughout other exercises too.
How often should I attend?
If you don’t have any medical reasons restricting you, attending up to x2 weekly is appropriate and may help you see more benefits.
What should I wear/bring?

Can I come try a class for free before committing?
Yes! Book your first free trial class and see how you go.
Can I get private health insurance rebates?
You may be able to get private health rebates for classes as our classes are designed and run by qualified physiotherapists. Coverage varies depending on your provider and policy, so you will need to check directly with your health fund. Ask if they give rebates for these physiotherapy codes:
